I have decided that I really need to eliminate insults that put people down based on gender and disability. I don't use insults related to sexual orientation (words like faggot, I really hate that word) because I don't think it's right so why is it okay for me to continue throwing around the word "retarded" and gender-related insults? I definitely consider myself a feminist, and I like neutral things rather than gender-specific things, so whyyy has it taken me so long to stop this BS?

I'm going to make a list of words/phrases I will NOT use anymore:

Gender; Female:
Bitch
Cunt
Pussy
Douche (bag) (sort of related, I guess, and gross in general)
Throwing/punching/hitting/etc. like a girl

Gender; Male:
Dick
Prick
Grow some balls/grow a pair/etc.

Disability:
Retarded

I still refuse to call things "gay" instead of stupid. Anyway, I'm sure there are tons more words/phrases but I think I've touched upon the major/common ones.

I'd love to hear everyone's thoughts on this.

It's tough. I've been trying to do the same. "Dumb" and "lame" could be disability-related, too. I don't know if it's exactly disability-related or gender-related, but "fat" as an insult or "fat-ass," too. Like, I used to get angry at girls and the first thing I would think in my head would be "fat-ass."

Anyway, gg, Hannah! Changing speech habits won't break the world's chains, but it's a way of refusing to accept/tolerate discrimination. It's common courtesy, as well. Small things like this matter. Everyone can do small things. I think it's kind of bullshit that they don't. What are they waiting for? Other people?

It's like what Gandhi said~ Be the change you want to see in the world.

You inspired me to write a blog post about this, too, by the way!
